How long does pebble dashing last?

Applied properly onto a well-prepared wall, pebble dash lasts for decades — it is one of the longest-lived exterior finishes there is. The usual reason it fails early is poor preparation or a rushed single coat, which is why we prepare the substrate properly and apply it in the right number of coats with the right curing time.

Can you repair just one section, or does the whole wall need redoing?

Where the problem is isolated to one or two areas, we remove the loose render, check the substrate for the underlying cause and re-render just that area to match. Full removal and replacement only becomes the better option when the whole wall has started to hollow — at that point repeated patching ends up looking like patchwork and costing more over time.

Will you be able to match my existing pebble dash?

Matching the stone colour, size and density is one of the harder parts of the job, and we take the time to get a repair as close to the original as possible. We will be honest at the survey stage about how close a match is realistically achievable on your particular wall.

Why is my pebble dash cracking or coming away from the wall?

Sections coming loose from the wall is called hollowing or blowing, and it is the most common pebble dash problem. It usually traces back to the original preparation, moisture getting behind the render, or movement in the wall. We inspect for the underlying cause before re-rendering, so the repair addresses why it failed rather than just covering it.

Is modern render better than traditional pebble dash?

Neither is simply better — they suit different goals. Silicone-based and through-coloured monocouche renders give a smoother, more contemporary look, while traditional pebble dash is hard-wearing and hides imperfections in the brickwork. Each has its own trade-offs on longevity, repair and cost. Where you are open to alternatives, we will talk through what suits the property best.

Can pebble dash and render be painted?

Yes. We paint rendered finishes using a masonry paint of an appropriate type for the surface. Painting can refresh the look of a tired wall and add a layer of weather protection, and we will advise on the right product for your finish.

Do you work on new builds and extensions, not just repairs?

Yes. As well as repairs and re-rendering, we apply new pebble dashing on extensions, new builds and on properties having existing brickwork covered for the first time.

Which areas do you cover?

We carry out pebble dashing and rendering across North West London, North London, East London and Essex. Photographs of the affected wall are particularly helpful at the enquiry stage and let us give you a more accurate quote.
