We are happy to supply the kitchen ourselves from a number of suppliers, or to fit a kitchen you have purchased separately. Either approach works, provided the units, appliances and worktop are specified in full before work starts.
Planning the Layout
The most expensive mistake people make with a new kitchen is to design it on a plan view without considering how the space is actually used. The fridge that opens the wrong way. The dishwasher placed too far from the sink. The bin cupboard behind the dining chairs.
We work through the practical side of the layout in detail before the design is signed off — appliance positions, worktop runs, services routing and the choice between a freestanding range and a built-in cooker.
Where the kitchen is being extended into a new space, the design is done with the building work in mind from the outset, so the windows, doors, lighting positions and services are placed correctly.
What Happens During the Fit
A typical kitchen fit runs to between two and four weeks on site for a domestic property, longer where the room is being structurally altered. The room is stripped out first; services are moved or extended to suit the new layout; then plastering, flooring preparation and building work are carried out. Units are dry-fitted, adjusted to the room, then permanently fixed. Stone and quartz worktops are templated once the units are in, then returned and fitted a week or so later. Appliances are connected, splashbacks installed, plumbing finished and electrics commissioned, with decoration the final stage.
Households are normally without a working kitchen for the duration. Where possible, we leave a temporary water supply and an electrical socket in a usable corner of the room so a kettle and microwave can be used.
Worktops, Finishes and Standards
Worktops are specified to suit the budget and use of the kitchen. Laminate worktops are still the practical choice in many homes. Solid surface, quartz, granite and porcelain worktops carry a higher cost but offer better resistance to heat and scratches. Each material has its own quirks, and we will talk through them honestly rather than steering you to whichever the supplier wants to sell.
All gas, electrical and plumbing work is carried out by the relevant qualified trades, and certificates are issued where applicable.
