Brickwork and Bricklaying Across North West London, North London, East London and Essex
Brickwork tends to fall into one of two categories: building something new, or making good something that has begun to fail. We carry out both for domestic and commercial properties across North West London, North London, East London and Essex, with the same attention paid to a small garden wall as to a structural rebuild.
Brickwork Services We Undertake
New Walls
Internal and external, structural and decorative, including supporting steelwork where it is required.
Garden & Boundary Walls
Walls of all heights, matched into existing brickwork, with sections that have moved rebuilt as needed.
Brickwork Repairs
Cracked, spalled or damaged areas put right, with bricks sourced to match the existing wall as closely as possible.
Cavity Wall Work
Replacement of failed wall ties and remedial work where moisture has tracked across the cavity.
Chimney Rebuilds
Full or partial rebuilds where weathering has taken the chimney beyond what repointing alone can resolve.
Arches, Lintels & Structural Openings
Formed and supported as part of larger renovation or extension projects.
Matching Existing Brickwork
A repair that does not match the surrounding wall is, in many cases, worse than the original problem. We spend time at the start of any repair sourcing bricks that come close in size, colour and texture to what is already there, and adjusting the mortar mix to match the existing joints.
Most London stocks, yellow stocks, red multis and reclaimed bricks are available without difficulty. Older or unusual bricks sometimes need tracking down through specialist reclamation yards, and we are happy to take that step where the building deserves it.
Why Choose a Family Run Firm
Decades in the trade put a value on getting the small details right, particularly on visible work like brickwork. The team that lays the bricks is the team that has to walk past the result for years afterwards locally, and that has a tangible effect on the standard the work is held to.
Signs Brickwork Is Failing
Brickwork rarely fails overnight. The usual signs are stepped cracks running diagonally across the wall, vertical cracks at corners or above openings, mortar that crumbles when picked at, brick faces that have flaked away (spalling), or visible damp patches inside that align with a section of wall outside.
Any of these warrants a closer look. Some turn out to be cosmetic. Others point to movement or water ingress that will get worse if it is left.
Mortar, Bonds and Standards
The mortar mix matters as much as the bricks. A mortar that is too strong relative to the brick will cause the brick to crack rather than the mortar, and the wrong colour ages badly. We use mixes appropriate to the age and type of wall, including lime mortar on older buildings where cement-based mixes would do harm. Standard bonds we work in include stretcher bond for cavity work, Flemish and English bonds on solid walls, and decorative patterns where the design calls for them.

Brickwork FAQs
Will you match new brickwork to my existing wall?
Yes. We source bricks that come close in size, colour and texture to the existing wall and adjust the mortar mix to match the joints. Most London stocks, yellow stocks, red multis and reclaimed bricks are readily available, and older or unusual bricks can be tracked down through specialist reclamation yards.
How do I know if my brickwork is failing?
Common signs include stepped cracks running diagonally across the wall, vertical cracks at corners or above openings, crumbling mortar, flaked brick faces (spalling), or damp patches inside that line up with a wall outside. Some are cosmetic; others point to movement or water ingress that gets worse if left.
Can you rebuild a chimney?
Yes. We carry out full and partial chimney rebuilds where weathering has taken the chimney beyond what repointing alone can resolve, along with repairs to the surrounding brickwork.
Why does the mortar mix matter?
A mortar that is too strong relative to the brick will cause the brick to crack rather than the mortar, and the wrong colour ages badly. We use mixes suited to the age and type of wall, including lime mortar on older buildings where cement-based mixes would do harm.
