Painting and Decorating Across North West London, North London, East London and Essex
A decorated room or a freshly painted exterior is the most visible result of any building project, and the part that gets judged first. Painting and decorating is also one of the jobs that gets rushed most often, with predictable consequences. We undertake painting and decorating work across North West London, North London, East London and Essex, on its own and as the finishing stage of larger projects.
Interior Decorating
Interior work covers everything from a single room repaint through to whole-house redecoration.
Walls and ceilings
In emulsion or specialist finishes appropriate to the room.
Woodwork
Skirting, architrave, doors, window frames and stairs, in water-based or traditional oil-based paints.
Wallpapering
Standard, lined and specialist papers, hung to a clean, lasting finish.
Feature walls and decorative finishes
Where the design calls for them, applied with the same care as the rest of the room.
Repairs and making good
Of plaster, woodwork and other surfaces before the decoration begins.
The preparation is the part that takes the time, and the part that the finished result depends on. Filling, sanding, caulking, priming and the right number of coats — this is what separates a decoration that holds up for ten years from one that needs attention again in two.
Exterior Decorating
Exterior work demands more in the preparation than interior work, because the surfaces are taking weather constantly between coats. The right time of year, the right weather, the right primer and the right top coat all matter.
- Exterior walls in masonry paint of an appropriate type for the substrate.
- Render and pebble dash painting with a paint specified to suit the finish.
- Windows and doors in timber, including the preparation of any softened or rotten sections before painting.
- Soffits and bargeboards, where they have been painted previously rather than replaced in uPVC.
- Garden walls, railings, gates and fencing.
Preparation, Materials and Standards
Three things separate a decoration that lasts from one that does not. The substrate has to be clean and sound. The right primer or undercoat has to be used for the substrate. The top coat has to be applied in the correct number of coats with the correct drying time between them.
We use materials from established manufacturers — Dulux, Crown, Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and the equivalent specialist suppliers for exterior and trade work — and will recommend the right product for the job rather than the cheapest in stock.
Combined With Other Work
A significant share of our painting and decorating is the final stage of a larger project — a new bathroom, a new kitchen, an extension, a refurbishment. Where the same firm has carried out the building work, the decoration sequences cleanly behind it, with the trades coordinated by one team rather than handed off to a separate contractor.
Why Choose Ridgewell
A family run firm with decades of experience takes the preparation as seriously as the brushwork. The dust sheets go down properly, the lining tape goes on properly, the work runs to the agreed schedule, and the site is left clean each day.
