Fencing Installation and Repair Across North West London, North London, East London and Essex
A fence has a working life of around fifteen to twenty years if it has been installed properly, and considerably less if the posts have been set badly or the wrong panel has been chosen for the location. We supply, fit and repair fencing across North West London, North London, East London and Essex on domestic and commercial properties, including the gates and access points that go with it.
Posts — The Part That Matters Most
A fence stands or falls on its posts. Timber posts that have been set in soft ground or that meet wet soil at the buried face will rot at the ground line within a few years, regardless of how good the panels are above them.
Our default is concrete posts where the panel system allows it. Concrete posts last considerably longer than timber, do not rot, and hold the fence square through the seasons. Where timber posts are required for the appearance of the fence, we use treated posts set in concrete with the appropriate drainage at the base to keep water away from the buried face.
Fencing Styles We Install
Closeboard (featheredge) fencing
The strongest of the common timber styles, built panel by panel on site rather than supplied as a pre-made unit.
Lap panel fencing
In standard six-foot and four-foot heights, suitable for most domestic gardens at a moderate budget.
Picket fencing
In painted or stained finishes, for front gardens and decorative boundaries.
Trellis topping & combined panels
Where the height of the fence needs to vary or where some light through the boundary is wanted.
Composite fencing
A modern alternative to timber that requires no maintenance and lasts considerably longer.
Metal railings & palisade fencing
For commercial and security applications. Gates are supplied and fitted to match — pedestrian gates, double drive gates, and the ironmongery and locks that go with them.
Boundary Considerations
Fences along a shared boundary need a sensible approach to the neighbour, even where the fence is clearly on one party’s land. We can advise on the practical side of which side of the fence the smooth face goes, where rails sit, and what height is appropriate.
Most domestic boundary fences do not require planning permission below two metres in height.
Gates and Access Points
Gates are supplied and fitted to match the fencing, including pedestrian gates, double drive gates and the ironmongery and locks that go with them. Where access for vehicles or wheelie bins matters, we set the posts and hardware to carry the weight and the daily use.
Repairs and Replacements
Individual post replacement
Where one or two posts have failed but the panels are still sound, replacing the post is usually the practical answer.
Panel-only replacement
Where panels have been damaged in a storm or by tree branches but the posts are sound, replacing the panels keeps the cost down.
Full replacement
Where both posts and panels are at the end of their working life, full replacement is the right call.
