Fascias, Soffits and Guttering Replacement Across North West London, North London, East London and Essex
The roofline is the strip running along the edge of the roof where the fascia, soffit, bargeboards and guttering all meet. It is one of the most exposed and least-noticed parts of a building, and when it begins to fail the damage tends to spread quickly into the timber and brickwork behind it. We supply, repair and replace roofline products across North West London, North London, East London and Essex, with a particular emphasis on full replacement of failed timber rather than capping over it.
What the Roofline Does and Why It Matters
The fascia board sits along the lower edge of the roof, supporting the bottom row of tiles and providing a fixing for the guttering. The soffit forms the underside of the eaves, closing off the gap between the wall and the overhanging roof. Bargeboards finish the gable ends. The guttering carries rainwater into the downpipes and away from the walls and foundations. Working together, these elements keep water away from the building, allow the roof void to breathe, and stop pests from getting into the loft.
When they begin to fail, the symptoms are usually visible. Peeling paint and visible rot on timber fascias. Sagging guttering. Water staining down the wall below a joint. Damp showing through inside on the top floor or in the loft. Birds and rodents finding their way under the soffit. Each of these is a warning that needs addressing before it becomes the larger problem behind it.

Materials and Finishes
uPVC fascias, soffits and bargeboards are available in white, grey, black, woodgrain finishes and a range of colours, in flat or sculpted profiles. uPVC guttering and downpipes match the roofline in colour. For period properties where uPVC would look out of place, timber roofline is supplied painted or unpainted as preferred. Cast iron guttering, which is sometimes appropriate on listed or conservation-area buildings, can also be supplied.
Capping Over vs. Full Replacement
A number of installers will quote to cover or cap existing fascias and soffits by fixing new uPVC over the top of the original timber. This is faster and cheaper than full replacement and on a roof where the existing timber is sound and dry, it is a defensible approach. On a roof where the timber is already wet or rotten, capping over it traps the damage in place, where it will continue to rot quietly out of sight until the boards have to be cut out years later at considerably greater cost.
Our default is full replacement. The existing fascias, soffits and bargeboards come off, the bottom row of tiles is supported, the roof timbers are checked, any timber repairs are carried out, and the new uPVC roofline is fitted to sound material behind it.
Why Choose Ridgewell
We have decades of experience as a family run roofing and building business, and roofline work is one of the jobs where our preference for doing things properly shows clearly. We replace rather than cap, we check the timber behind the boards, and we issue a written quotation that sets out exactly what is being done.
How We Work
We make replacing your roofline simple. Our step-by-step process keeps you informed at every stage, from the first site visit through to the final handover.
Free Site Survey & Quotation
We visit your property, inspect the roofline from ground level and where needed up close, discuss what you want to achieve and provide a detailed, written quotation — no obligation and no hidden costs.
Material & Colour Selection
We advise on the best profile, finish and colour for your property — white, grey, black, woodgrain or a matched colour — and confirm whether uPVC, timber or cast iron is right for the building.
Agreed Schedule & Fixed Pricing
Before any work starts, you will have a fixed price and a clear project timeline. If we find rotten timber once the old boards are off, we discuss it with you first — no surprises.
Professional Installation & Completion
Our team removes the old roofline, supports the bottom row of tiles, fits the new fascias, soffits, bargeboards and guttering, then leaves the site clean and tidy and walks you through the completed work before we go.
